Repair Droopy Eyelid

Droopy eyelids can be caused by too much upper eyelid skin as we age (dermatochalasis), or the eyelid margin drooping (ptosis). When there is too much skin, the extra skin is removed by making an incision at your natural lid crease and removing the excess skin. The skin is then closed in the most aesthetically pleasing manner possible with sutures, which are removed in 1 to 2 weeks.

In droopy eyelid (ptosis) repair, the eyelid margin is placed back in its normal position either by making an incision on the lid crease (external approach) or underneath the eyelid (internal approach). In either approach, the weak muscle that opens the lid (levator) is isolated and placed in its correct position. The incisions are then closed with sutures. Frequently ptosis repair is paired with removing excess upper eyelid skin (dermatochalasis) during surgery.
